Empathic Attunement
Relating without losing oneself
Balancing relational difficulties
* Attachment work in a body-oriented approach is working with the relational patterns stored in the body. By strengthening our body-awareness we can change how we relate to a way that is more aligned with our genuine needs and longings.
* Compassionate Reflection or Reflective Functioning implies both cognitive and affective empathy as a way to meet one’s own and others internal states. It entails the quality of deep listening into both Self and the Other.
* Acknowledge Relational Challenges entails developing radical acceptance in order to accept a situation more fully as it is, in your mind, in your heart, and in your body.
Attachment:
- The interplay between dependence, in-dependence and inter-dependence into more secured attachment and consciousness of boundaries.
- How shame/ feeling wrong creates sense of loneliness.
- How to understand the dynamic process between memory in the brain and the body.
- How bodily sensations and movements are tied to emotional and cognitive processes.
Reflective Functioning
Reflective functioning involves being able to observe, attune to and vision the internal states of you and another. For example, noticing physical tension or a change in breathing can provide clues about underlying emotions or mental states.
* Difficulties in reflective functioning is usually caused by deep unmet needs in early childhood.
* The integration of emotional experiences with somatic awareness helps you to move beyond automatic or reactive behaviors towards a more nuanced understanding of your emotions and their origins.
Acknowledge Relational Challenges:
The Radical Acceptance helps to accommodate the internal states with less resistance.
How to acknowledge pain and difficulty with compassion and manage the struggle in the reality.
Support and encourage nonjudgmental acknowledge-ment. A tightness/ given up in a specific place in the body linked to an emotion.
